Welcome to the Cyber Hygiene Clinic, your weekly digital wellness checkup — brought to you every Thursday by SekoTech. Over the next 52 weeks, we’ll break down one simple, practical tip to help Namibians stay safe online — whether you’re in Windhoek, Ongwediva, or deep in the dunes of the Namib.

This Week (Week 1): We’re tackling one of the most overlooked yet critical cybersecurity habits — building a strong password in under 10 seconds. Yes, it’s possible. And no, “123456” still doesn’t count.

🧠 Today’s Digital Survival Skill

Make it long. Make it random. Make it yours.

🚨 How Risky Is This?

Medium Risk – Weak passwords are the #1 entry point for hackers targeting email, banking, or work accounts.

📌 Why This Matters

So how do you create a strong password? Here’s a Namibian-friendly trick that works for anyone:

  1. Think of a sentence only you would remember.
Example: “Why Password Hygiene Matters for National Cybersecurity”
  2. Take the first letter of each word:
    ➤ wPhM4nC
  3. Strengthen it with symbols and smart replacements:
    ➤ Add @, !, or _
➤ Capitalise one or two letters
    ➤ Use numbers (like “for” → 4)

✅ Final Password: wPhM4nc@_. It looks random — but to you, it’s memorable. Try it.

🔐 Make It Work: Practical Tips

  • Use at least 12 characters
  • Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
  • Don’t reuse passwords across different accounts
  • Use a password manager to keep them safe

💡 Did You Know? (Bonus Insight)

A password like “Johannesburg1990!” can be cracked in under 3 minutes.
But wPhM4nc@_? It could take over 300 years to crack using brute force.
